Tea and Other Afternoon Parties

....the difference between a reception and a tea is one of atmosphere only, like the difference in furnishing twin houses. A reception always takes itself seriously. A tea, no matter how formal it pretends to be, is friendly and inviting. One does not go to be impressed or instructed, but merely to see one's friends and be seen by them.

  1. What a nice thought to go to tea not to impress or instruct, but to enjoy.
