Roman Ruins and Lucy's Tea Room, too

We discovered Roman ruins on our adventure. One afternoon we toured the ancient Chedworth Roman Villa near Cheltenham, and another afternoon we toured the Roman Baths in Bath. Both a contrast in location from an idyllic rural setting to a location in the middle of a bustling community, from ruins that require great imagination to well preserved and reconstructed. At Chedworth, we were introduced to history by an enthusiastic retired archeologist that presented one tour on Tuesday only. We felt fortunate to learn from him.
In Bath, we toured the Roman Baths using the hand held listening device. They had a few costumed guides strolling around to help set the scene.

https://www.facebook.com/lucystearoomLucy's Tearoom was our destination after our visit to Chedworth. There had been an Internet post that featured 21 Charming Tearooms in England to visit, and Lucy's Tea Room  in Stow-on-the-Wold was included on the list. We arrived rather late to this charming village, and there were tour buses parked everywhere. The tea room was packed, but they suggested their tea garden.

The menu board offered a hint of choices. And our cheerful waitress offered other selections. The jacket potato with a side salad and coleslaw was a flavorful change from the tea sandwiches and scones we had been having. Angelica opted for the quiche of the day while Susanna had toasted cheesy savory scones she found quite delicious too.

When we left, the tea room had totally cleared out! We were simply too stuffed to sample any of the desserts on display.

Tea garden atmosphere. Love the bright green watering can! The road sign markings, and the green covered buildings! Fun!

  1. We have visited every place you mention in this beautiful post. Lucy's Tea Room was the Ann Willow Tea Room for many years during our visits. I read the same article you did with the "must visit" tea rooms and knew it had changed.

  2. Love it! We had another week's holiday let in Stow and ate at Lucy's often, and were in Bath many times for their weekly antiques market, and always tea somewhere...Love it!

  3. I was able to walk in this shop, but didn't have the opportunity to have tea. What a treat!
