Goodstay Gardens, Wilmington DE

Goodstay Gardens is another DuPont family garden also designed by  Marian Cruger Coffin, the first female landscape architect in the US.  It is now part of the university of DE, Wilmington Campus. The garden is a series of 'rooms' partitioned off by boxwood hedges. These is the rose garden and iris garden.

Above is the Knot garden where the knot is formed by the hardscaping instead of the plants.

I loved the peaceful beauty of this public garden and also the little ways they incorporated and preserved their history.

  1. This also confirms something I've thought for a while: the concept of garden "rooms" is not new but in fact something that's been going on for quite a while. I think it just became trendy to call them "rooms" a few years ago, at least here in America. And I love seeing all the pretty green color in your photos!

  2. Love gardens rooms lined with boxwood. As a young girl I thought it would be fun to have such a garden and this is lovely.
