Nancy and a friend headed to
Alfred's Victorian in Middletown on Halloween to enjoy their specialty themed tea. The old Victorian mansion was decorated throughout all the rooms highlighting the festive occasion.

Once seated, a colorful pumpkin shaped pot with Falling Leaves Tea brewing was presented to our table. It was described as a green rooibos tea with hints of maple, caramel, and toffee. We enjoyed the warming notes of this tea.

The hostess explained that we would be served three courses, with the first course a cup of warm butternut squash soup with orange and black toasted 'croutons' which were toasted pieces of carrots and red beets. They added a fun touch to the soup.

A pedestaled cake plate held the assorted tea sandwiches and a variety of scones. Toppings for the scones were already on the table. The colorful variety certainly confirmed that we have transitioned to the fall season. The orange and black bread was a fun nod to the Halloween event.

The sandwiches included a pimiento cheese, a creamy cucumber sandwich, a ham and cheese sandwich with a thin slice of apple added. There was a pumpkin shaped puff pastry with a savory red beet topping, and a crisp crostini topped with fresh kiwi, warm brie, and adorned with a ghostly face. We found the sandwiches to be quite tasty.

The fall scones featured a cinnamon scone and a pumpkin scone topped with black sanding sugar. The toppings were a sweet cream and pumpkin spread. A second pot of tea, Back Porch Blend was brought to the table. This black tea is flavored with assorted berries to produce a fruity flavor.

Desserts included a warm apple turnover in the shape of a coffin, a blondie with ghosty eyes, a brownie with a 'skeleton' atop it, and spiced pecans.

We enjoyed our afternoon tea with a Halloween twist. Shown here are a few of the other rooms with the theme. Afternoon Tea at Alfred's Victorian is served on select days and always features a seasonal menu. We learned about this event on their
