Afternoon Tea is served in The Dining Room Restaurant on the grounds of The Butchart Gardens. Our fifth (!) and final farewell to Victoria tea was enjoyed here!
A nice assortment of loose leaf tea selections were offered. The 100th Anniversary blend is a mix of Darjeeling, black Hunan and gunpowder. Earl Grey and English Breakfast are steadfast traditional teas and a few herbal selections were also offered. Everyone enjoyed using the silver plated tea strainers.
First course was a Berry Trifle - a Vanilla sponge cake with chantilly cream and mixed berry compote. It was like starting with dessert first!
The vegetarian Afternoon Tea option featured traditional warm delicacies included a Vegetable pasty and Roasted onion and asparagus quiche. Savory tea sandwiches included Roast pepper cream cheese roulade, Egg salad with watercress, Tomato and Boursin cheese on a cheddar scone, and English cucumber with fresh ginger cream cheese.
The house-made sweets included chocolate brandy Napoleon, Orange poppy seed loaf, French meringue, Battenberg cake, and chocolate Irish cream truffle.
The scone was a Signature candied ginger scone with strawberry jam, and whipped vanilla Devon-style cream.
